I'M DAVID WHITE

My path into art began when I was invited to join Grand Valley Artists in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1975. Several prominent local artists were members and I learned a lot during the five years I was a member. Everything changed with the beginning of 1980. I started to work for an International business company and then spent my entire career traveling and working overseas. No time for art.

Things changed again when I retired in 2005. After months of golfing three days a week, I finally realized that I needed to do something more productive with my new found freedom.

It didn't hit me like a ton of bricks, but gradually the idea of returning to art began to surface. I started with simple pencil and ink drawings of a coffee cup, a wine bottle, a pair of shoes, a bag of baking flour. Painting with acrylic paint soon followed and continues to this day.

I paint everyday and over the years I've painted a variety of subjects...landscapes, mountains, trees, abstracts, space paintings and flow paintings. I'm always experimenting with subjects, style, color, and paint application, but now I seem to have pretty much settled on the bright and colorful lions, bears and owls. Along with this I'm exploring the idea of a single painting but on two canvases placed side by side flat against the wall or in a corner or projected out from the center a few inches. Kind of giving the painting a 3D look.

My paintings have no hidden secrets or obscure meanings to interpret. What you see is what you get.

And the experimenting continues, especially with color.
